Curriculum notes: when to stop adding HANA parameters
Rina Kwon · 2025-11-18
SAP HANA exposes many knobs. Early drafts of our HANA operations workshop tried to mention every relevant ini parameter in one day. Learners left overwhelmed, mixing transactional and analytical recommendations.
We now cap explicit parameter discussions at twelve per day, grouped by outcome: stability, observability, and recovery. Anything else moves to optional reading with a clear warning that it is exploratory.
Cutting content stings. Instructors see gaps they once loved teaching. The Academic Director signs off on removals only when exit surveys show improved confidence scores on the core twelve.
If you maintain internal training, borrow the grouping idea before the cut list. Parameters without a story tied to an incident rehearsal rarely stick anyway.
