Designing quiet rooms at live forums without hiding people

Event Announcements often highlight loud keynotes; quiet rooms rarely get design love. At Basis Beacon Korea forums we place quiet rooms near power, away from sponsor desks, with clear signage that they are optional—not a refuge from social anxiety alone, but a place to finish traces or messages before the next lab.

Volunteers check occupancy every thirty minutes with a simple tally sheet so we never overcrowd fire limits. Lighting stays bright; we avoid spa tropes. Chairs are standard office chairs so nobody feels singled out for needing silence.

We also publish a short etiquette card: no calls, keyboards on gentle mode, fifteen-minute suggested stay unless you booked a longer slot with Admissions. That keeps rotation fair.

Feedback from Busan and Seoul events said the etiquette card reduced awkward confrontations. We are iterating on translated cards for bilingual cohorts next season.
